Does not matter the age.  If a child can read, the Bible can work!

Ps 119:9 Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.

Ps 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

We were having family devotions a few nights ago.  Our family was discussing the eternal impact of the Word of God.  It hit us like a lightning bolt splitting a tree in half… oh, yeah… duh, THE WORD WORKS!  It has worked, is working, and will continue to work!

In other words, it is the Word that does the work to me, in me, and through me.  It is like washing the dishes (something I just did for the first time…lol).  I can take a rag and scrub the dishes and not get them clean.  I can use water, a rag, and scrub and not get all the grease off the pans.

What does the work in cleaning the pots and pans of the grease?  The soap!  When I apply the soap then the cleansing process works!  So it is not me that truly cleanses the dishes… it is me applying the soap that makes them clean.  Likewise, many times I have tried to scrub my own life clean, tried many different programs, classes, and church services to get clean, but until I apply the Word in my life I cannot rid my life of the greasy contaminents that are polluting me.

Hence, THE WORD WORKS!  Does not matter your age, your past, your depth of sin, your addiction, your guilt, your condemnation by others, or your own thoughts of I’ll never change.  These things are only your mind limiting what the Word and the Holy Spirit are truly capable of doing.

God’s power of love, forgiveness, and grace are not limited by your gross sin.  They are limited because you do not apply the Word in each area. God’s love goes far deeper than any sin or sins we could ever commit!  Allow God, His Word, and His amazing grace to wash you new!

This is why the family devotionals are paramount in our homes, our daily walk with the Lord, our meditation on Scripture are all a part of applying the Word.  Going to church and Sunday school are functions that direct us to His Word and teach us more of how to apply it in our lives.

Praying for our church family.

P.S. things that the Word works in:  forgiveness (not bitterness), peace (not anger), contentment (not lust), love (not hate), humility (not pride), others (not self)… these are issues that many of us deal with every day.  THE WORD WORKS!
