Whose church is it?
Does Bible Baptist Church belong to Pastor Schutt? Does it belong to the deacon board? Does it belong to the membership?
Here is what the Bible says, Col 1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church:
Eph 1:22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
I love Psalms 100, it makes things pretty clear – Ps 100:3 Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
Notice in these passages who is the head of the body, the church? JESUS. Who has made us? Whose people are we? Whose pasture do we graze in? Whose gates do we enter? Whose courts do we praise and worship in? It is all HIS, THE LORD, JESUS CHRIST!
How awesome is it that we can rest in His arms, and in His Word knowing that He will lead us according to His will. It might not be what we want, but it is His will!
I realize that we as a church must make decisions as this is our church and I as a pastor am called to lead His flock. So I understand the statement, “I love my church”. This is referring to the church that I attend and have given full commitment. It is like saying, “I love my school”, or “I love my job”… I get it. There is nothing wrong or sinful in saying, “my church”. But in giving a day of celebration and love to the church where I belong, my heart’s desire is to be sure Jesus gets all the praise, all the glory, and all the honor.
Revelation 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
Revelation 5:9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy bloodout of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
I would like to recommend changing our terminology of our annual, “I LOVE MY CHURCH” Sunday to “I LOVE HIS CHURCH” Sunday. This gives honor and praise to Jesus that this is His as the Bible makes very clear. Bible Baptist Church does not belong to Pastor Schutt. I did not shed my blood, I was not crucified on a cross, I have not been physically buried, and I for sure have not risen from the dead yet! Therefore, I am simply a servant, a bond slave, an under shepherd to completely follow what the Shepherd says.
So as we celebrate our love for our church. Let’s be clear, we are celebrating our love for Jesus’ church, our love for His shed blood that purchased your soul and mine, the church, and our love for our resurrected Saviour!
Thank you! Love you all!
Praying for His church.
